I had never been to lake Minnewanka before, and I was blown away by how amazingly beautiful it is. And by how many people there were! Golden doesn't get that busy! I must admit I had a bit of a panic, then the clouds rolled in and it rained on and off for the next few hours, reducing the crowds and giving us some lovely soft light. It was such a fun filled and perfect evening with you both and your fur baby! I had so many laughs and I am in love with your dog! Who was captivated by my meowing like a cat, works every time! So excited about your wedding next summer.
These guys made the best announcement in front of their nearest and dearest during their reception. And the reaction was amazing! They are starting their own little family! Such big congrats you guys! And wow Jesse! Best husband ever, he suprises his bride with not only a beautiful necklace but a new ring as well! More coming soon from this gorgeous day.
Years ago before I started my own business, I attended a wedding as a guest. This wedding helped me to get some very clear ideas about the experience I wanted my couples ( and their guests) to have.
I remember watching my beautiful friend and her gorgeous ceremony and I couldn't wait to give her a hug and share her happiness.
However as soon as the newly weds walked down the isle, the photographer went straight into family photos. There was no chance to say congrats. The bridal party then left immediately for photos off location. It was a very hot and sunny day, the canapes and cocktails were all eaten and drunk. The time for dinner came, still no sign of the bridal party. Another hour passed and they finally returned. By this stage some guests were rather drunk ( in the sun on a hot day) and very hungry.
A few had even left in search of mc donalds! Those who had young children went home.
Then is was straight into the speeches, cake cutting, first dances. Eventually at 10pm I finally got to hug my friend.
Yes their photos were amazing, but was that the experience they wanted to have?
It is always a juggling act between getting all those epic photos that we see on Pinterest (often by the way, from elopements and styled shoots where there is no time limit) and making real memories with those that you love and getting to see you guests.
I will NEVER bring you back an hour late to your reception!
I have written up lots of info on my FAQ page including some ideas for timelines so that we can try and strike a balance between both. Ie planning your evening so we have 15 min to sneak out for golden hour.
If you want to 100 percent ensure that you have that epic mountain photo at sunset. Engagement shoots and even day after shoots or as they are called adventure sessions, are a perfect way to pick the perfect location, on a day with the perfect weather (sorry sometimes it rains on your wedding day!) and get lots of photos without the time crunch of a wedding.
Every wedding I keep a close eye on the time, and will be telling you when its time to start getting ready, letting you know, when we need to leave for bridal party photos, and generally keeping you on schedule!
I have been so lucky to photograph at all Golden's venues many times and know the locations where the light is best at certain times so none of your photo time is wasted.
Your photos are my job! But let's be honest, it is your wedding day, and is so much more than a photo shoot.
the way Jerrit is looking at his gorgeous bride! what a look of love! xx You two are the loveliest people! so much fun to be around and so obviously in love! Their two children did such a great job as flower girl and ring bearer.
many more coming soon.
Two of the most fun, adventurous and most lovely people! You could really feel the joy and love that their family and friends felt for them and how excited they were for this great couple. This wedding was such a joy to photograph as there were so many honest moments, lots of happy tears and joy! Which for me is what is should all be about.
And the pug...I couldn't look at her without laughing.
It was also the hottest day of summer thus far! Everyone was amazing in the heat and wind exploring all around the mountain!
Thank you for sharing you day with me, it was such a priviledge. xx
Also shout out to all the amazing and talented golden vendors who helped made this day so beautiful.

Holly and Simon got married on the incredible farm Holly grew up on. What a beautiful spot-surrounded by mountains.
So much love and hard work from family and friends helped create this fun, laughter (and hugs and dancing!) filled day for this brilliant couple.
So I send out a form asking them about their desires for their day. Krista sent back she wanted to have fun, have some drinks and dance! And that is exactly what happened! Her sister broke her toe and was still out there killing it on the dance floor!
You are one brilliant, in love and joy filled couple! I had so many laughs, thank you for a great day!
more coming soon.
Alanna and Jeff love the mountains and chose Kicking Horse so their family and friends could experience what a special place and beautiful place it is. The weather was awful in the morning with thunder and storms predicted for the whole day.
I am so so happy that this brilliant, and very much in love couple, got sunshine and even a rainbow. You had the best attitude and were rewarded for it. They also shared the sweetest first look full of hugs, happy tears and laughter.
Thank you for sharing you amazing day with me. More coming soon.
Wow!! What an amazing couple and venue. Carly and Kyler are so much in love and so full of joy and laughter.
The weather was definitely four season in one day, with huge hailstones before their first look, then rain then sun and repeat!
But these guys didn't let it bother them at all and were rewarded with a perfect weather window for their ceremony.
The owners at Nipika are incredible and go above and beyond to ensure the couples (and photographer- we get driven around to all the photo spots!) has the most stress free and fun day. It is family owned and run and you can feel the love and pride they have in their beautiful home.
Thank you so much Carly and Kyler for sharing your day with me.xx
many more coming soon.
and some really heavy rain and some very sunny days! Its been doing a bit of everything on this little island.
